Description: Since 2014 ASTOVOT has initiated a cultural project called "Kékéli Festival". KéKéli, which means "Shine" in Ewe, is a crossroads of cultural expression and popular education. Every summer, many international and local volunteers are welcomed to this international work camp to discover the richness of Togolese culture in all its diversity. During two weeks, the festival proposes several cultural and artistic activities in a popular education approach, giving the local population and the volunteers the opportunity to create spaces for intercultural exchange and to promote the cultural and artistic heritage of the region where the festival is organised. ASTOVOT aims to bring art and culture closer to the people living in rural areas, to make them move, sing, dance, laugh and smile.

Study Theme: The theme of this year's festival is "Culture at the service of safeguarding our environment". In addition to the festival, other activities will be organised by the volunteers, including: clean-up actions in the village hosting the festival; a football gala for young girls; awareness-raising on ecological practices, etc. To propose an offer of intercultural exchange through the valorisation of cultural, artistic and artisanal heritage; To allow folk and traditional groups to have a visibility with the planning of an apotheosis show; To raise awareness of the fragility of the balance of e
Accommodation: Accommodation is generally basic, simple and specific to the location of the project. On site, volunteers are accommodated in groups of three or four people per room. The number of people per room depends on the collective organisation of the volunteers themselves. Depending on the location, volunteers may use dry toilets and showers without water inside. This implies that the volunteers will fetch water from a fountain or well. The association provides volunteers with plastic or foam mats. Access to drinking water, electricity and internet... and food ( More details in the Infosheet)
Language: The languages of the workcamp are French and then English. However, we recommend that non-French speaking volunteers have a basic knowledge of French before their arrival. The official language of Togo is French. The vast majority of local volunteers and communities have a very low level of English.
Requirements: This project requires a high level of motivation on the part of the volunteers, as it involves the permanent mobilisation of the public around the organised activities. Volunteers must have a real interest in inter-cultural issues and solidarity.
Approximate Location: The village of Kuma-Apoti is one of the ten villages of Kuma Canton (Kloto prefecture). It is located northwest of the town of Kpalimé. Its relief consists of a vast plateau and wooded mountains. Kuma-Apoti is located in a humid area and its climate, very particular for Togo, is much cooler and "temperate" than that of Lomé. The village's economy is essentially based on agriculture, around which some commercial, craft and tourist activities revolve. The agricultural sector employs about 80% of the population. The products from which the population derives a meagre income are coffee and cocoa.
Notes: In addition to the main activities of the site, several other activities are organized such as discovery walks, hikes, parties or cultural meetings. These activities allow volunteers to get in touch with local populations but also to discover Togolese culture. During the weekends, collective excursions are organized by the volunteers and their leaders to discover the tourist sites of the region where the workcamp is taking place. It should be noted that expenses related to excursions and outings of volunteers are not included in the participation fees.
