Local non-profit music festival “Hors Tribu” in Môtiers (Val-de-Travers NE)

Description: The purpose of the association is to organize a yearly tiny music festival. In 2022, it will be the 27th edition! Organizers work on a voluntary basis and try to do it all by themselves. It is an alternative way to stay free from sponsors and economic rules that are usually in place for big festivals. In the end the festival looks like a nice handmade event where people can enjoy a wide variety of music styles and meet each other in a friendly atmosphere. As a volunteer you’ll be involved in creating a unique non-profit, human-sized and eco-friendly event.
Type of Work: You will have an opportunity to work on different tasks: structures, kitchen, decoration, etc. You will work with the organizers and local volunteers. Your tasks will mainly be outdoor jobs, except for the kitchen tasks. Be aware that the amount of work varies over the days! Each job is supervised by a skilled volunteer from the organization. Your creativity is appreciated. During the festival, organizers will give you free time so you can appreciate the result of your work. Of course, any help during the festival is also appreciated. The week after the festival you will clean the material, and take it back to the storage.
Study Theme: As we are a very small organization working without sponsors, we often talk about "small is beautiful", "de-growth" and “do it yourself”. We often compare the difference between political and social life in our different countries of origin. These discussions take place often during meals or transports, at any time given.
Accommodation: You will sleep in dormitories that are specially installed in a nearby building. They are fitted with mattresses, shower and toilets. You need to bring your own warm sleeping bag - be aware that it might get chilly sometimes overnight. The accommodation is in a 10-minute walk from the festival site. We cook and eat every meal together. There is no Wi-Fi on the field, but usually we share our internet connection from our phones.
Language: In 2022 to encourage people willing to improve their French skills, it will be the workcamp language - “le français sera la langue du chantier !” It’s also the local language. However organizers and local volunteers will speak English as best as they can, if needed.
Requirements: As the camp's main language is French, we will ask those volunteers, whose mothertongue is NOT French, to have a short interview with us in French before we confirm their participation. To participate in the camp you need to be able to communicate in French (level B1/B2 and higher).
NEW INCOMING FEE for volunteers applying via Partner organisations and Contacts of SCI: https://bit.ly/3iiJWI5
Notes: During the workcamp an organizer will guide you to visit some of the local natural and cultural sites. On an evening of the 2nd week, you’ll go to the nearby city of Neuchâtel to enjoy the lake and a street-music festival.
SCI Switzerland supports this camp, as it is a cultural non-profit initiative.
