Description: This project is actively working for SDGs 10 (Reduced Inequalities), organized with Malaysian Organization of Volunteer Exchange (MOVE) for the first time in this place. MOVE is a workcamp NGO founded in 2006, but stopped activities for some years and NICE restarted co-organizing since 2017Children without document is living there for many generations. These children and their families are called as boat people or river people. The belong to no land. They don t accept by any nearby country like Malaysia, Indonesia , Bangladesh or Philippines. They don t have identity card nor citizenship. They gathered in island and living there as community. They are Muslims. A NGO called Sandakan Community Care (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOAdLySDjhc) is teaching English to them as well as distributing the food and other live hood to the island people. They try to educate them by hoping one day things will change. Ms. Lat who founded this NGO in 2019 were grown up in Sandakan and is earning in this town by teaching English and using her income to run the school. There is no physical school in that island. Children are studying at boat jetty.
Type of Work: Volunteers will join this NGO s activities to teach English and music as well as distributing food to their families on the island who have serious lack of income especially since fishing and selling the fish cannot be done as actively as before due to the restrictions by COVID-19. Volunteers are welcomed to propose any creative activities such as a sports event
Accommodation: Volunteers will stay in a few houses of the village (home stay). They are close to each other, so vols. can often gather for the meetings and free time. Be ready to have very basic conditions, but also nice exchange with the people Sleeping bag is needed.
