Listening the landscape, listening the body
Description: La città dell'Utopia is a project of SCI Italy based in Rome (San Paolo district), inside the Casale Garibaldi, an old country house perched on a green hill in the middle of modern buildings. The project is a social laboratory of active citizenship and local development, a place for experimenting a model of shared management between citizens, associations, informal groups and international volunteers. It organises seminars, workshops, language and other courses, festivals and events open to the entire population for entertainment, training and debate, always free of charge or available at a popular cost. In recent years, especially as a result of covid, citizen involvement has become more punctual and less transversal..
Type of Work: "Listening to the landscape, listening to the body" is a hands-on workshop that aims to challenge our attention to the external and internal space we constantly inhabit. In this workshop we will explore the body and its limits in relation to space and sound. If the space we know and traverse is finite and has limits, sound expands these limits and connects us with other landscapes. By experimenting with how sound can transform images, we will embark on a journey: Do borders, frontiers exist? Where is the separation between us and nature? How does exposure to sound change our perception of space? Starting from our relationship with space, understood as an active and privileged partner of creation, we will work on writing and movement.
Study Theme: Part 1: Methods and composition Exploration of the methods of listening, bodywork and writing. A series of exercises working on presence, listening and writing.
Part 2: The landscape The second part of the workshop is about space. We will take walks together around our workplace and map the places. From these places we will begin to turn our attention to soundscapes and the rhythms that inhabit them.
Part 3: Creation of a small performance based on "Mas Onde Está a Espada"? Finally, we will choose a place together to create a performance of maximum 20 minutes, ideally presented in groups.
