For Climate 5.0

Description: Our camps is about Climate Change, Sustainability, and Green Economy,. Our aims are: 1) Raise awareness about the importance of youth mobilization and participation in solving local and global problems; 2) Promoting youth participation and involvement in environmental and social issues, in particular in the management of water resources and biodiversity; 3) Reflect on the causes and consequences of climate change and ways to act as citizens, particularly in terms of managing water resources and biodiversity; 4) Reflect on the importance of autochthonous flora species for biodiversity and management of water resources 5)To support Marca in setting up and maintaining a nursery of Mediterranean flora species 6) Promote reflection on sustainable behaviours, tools that help these behaviours.
Type of Work: 1) Collection and sorting of native plant seeds, which will be used to create micro-reserves; 2) Cleaning up watercourses, controlling reeds and other necessary biophysical engineering interventions. 3) Nursery maintenance work - In order to ensure the normal functioning of our nursery, the participants will carry out a variety of tasks, including weeding the plants in production, transplanting plants into pots with a larger capacity, watering the mother plants, sowing seeds, reorganizing the space and other tasks that are relevant to the normal functioning of the nursery, thus guaranteeing the survival of the plants in production. 4) Practical workshop on sustainability and changing behavior. 5) Practical workshop on water management.
Study Theme: Participants will acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on:
- Climate Action: how to deal with climate change impacts in a natural and rural environment on the Mediterranean area;
- Nature conservation & green business’s: how can we use nature, benefiting both local communities and natural environment;
- Water resources management: how water is managed in our community, under the Mediterranean context and that as suffered impacts from severe droughts and flash floods events;
- Autochthones flora species: the importance for biodiversity and water management in rural and urban areas
Accommodation: The participants will be accommodated in individual tents which is located 5 km from Montemor-o-Novo. There the participants will cook breakfast and snacks; Lunch and dinner will be provided, exception for weekends where participants have to cook lunch and dinner. Participants are responsible for cleaning the common kitchen and dishes.
Requirements: You have to clean the space after cook and eat; You have to clean the WC's; Respect the hours of sleeping; Clean the food boxes every day; Do not leave trash on the floor. Bring Sleeping bag; Towels and toiletries (personal hygiene items); Clothes and shoes appropriate for high temperatures and for work in the field; Warm clothes for the night (minimum temperature 12ºC); Torch for night use, etc
Approximate Location: This camp takes place in a rural territory, close to a small city, Montemor-o-Novo in Alentejo region, Portugal. The camp will be at a 7 minutes distance by car from Montemor-o-Novo, transport for the activities will be assured. It is located at approximately at a 100 km distance from Lisbon, the Portuguese city capital and 35km from Évora.
